LXD Documents & Course Mapping

I recently worked with a subject matter expert (SME) to map a course called The Elements of Teamwork. This course is designed for youth with disabilities between the ages of 14 and 22 who are transitioning into the adult world.

Design

The SME and I collaborated to map her course, The Elements of Teamwork. It will be delivered asynchronously through an LMS, and is designed to strengthen the soft skills of youth with disabilities who are transitioning into the adult world.

The Elements of Teamwork was mapped using Backward Design. We first identified the overarching goals of the course, and then created measurable objectives that assess content mastery. Data will be gathered using a custom xAPI widget and instructor and student surveys. The gathered data will be analyzed to inform future iterations of the course.

The mapping documents we created are displayed below. All 5 modules will follow the same structure to provide consistency and remove learning barriers.

Accessibility and Universal Design Learning

Accessibility is central to our design process. The course will be tested for accessibility before launch and the images, references, assignments, and characters will be chosen mindfully to ensure equity and inclusion.

The Elements of Teamwork will be built to meet exacting quality standards, including Universal Design Learning (UDL). UDL is broken into 3 categories, engagement, representation, and action and expression. Listed below are some of the ways the course will achieve these quality standards.
